From 1st January 2021, Pet Passports that were issued in Great Britain are no longer valid as travel documents.
In order to travel into the EU with your pet dogs, cats or ferrets you will need an Animal Health Certificate to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) in the 10 days beforehand.
Animal Health Certificates have replaced Pet Passports as the documents required for travel into and around the EU for dogs, cats and ferrets travelling from Great Britain.
From 1st January 2021 your GB-issued Pet Passport is no longer valid for travel to the EU or Northern Ireland. EU or Northern Ireland-issued Pet Passports, where the rabies vaccine is given by an EU vet and up-to-date are still valid for travel.
Your GB-issued Pet Passport can still be used as proof of rabies vaccine status for your Animal Health Certificate.
Dogs, cats and ferrets require an Animal Health Certificate to travel to the EU. This is because they carry a risk of transmitting rabies.
Your pet will need to be:
If it is your pet’s first rabies vaccine you will need to leave at least 21 days before your Animal Health Certificate appointment. If it is a booster vaccine you do not need to leave 21 days.
If you are travelling with your dog to Northern Ireland, Ireland, Norway, Finland or Malta, they will also need a tapeworm treatment to be given 24 - 120 hours before you enter these countries. This will need to be certified by a vet on your Animal Health Certificate.
Once you book an appointment, you will be emailed a link to our pre-appointment form. We ask you complete this as soon as possible after booking so that we can start your paperwork before your appointment.
As part of the pre-appointment form, you will be asked to upload clear photographs or scanned copies of your pet's latest rabies vaccination record. This can either be:

An Animal Health Certificate is required for travel from Great Britain (England, Wales or Scotland) to Northern Ireland or any country within the EU.
Travel to non-EU countries requires a different certificate (Export Health Certificate). If you require one of these please contact us before booking an appointment.
Animal Health Certificates are valid for entry into the EU for 10 days from their date of issue.
They are valid for one trip only - if you travel outside the EU, you will need a new Animal Health Certificate in order to re-enter.
Once inside the EU, your Animal Health Certificate is valid for ongoing travel within the EU for up to four months from the date of issue OR until the date of expiry of the rabies vaccination (whichever comes first).
You can travel with up to five pets on the same Animal Health Certificate. They don't all have to be the same species.
